Ohio Arts Council Artists Kate Gorman and Amy Rich visit InsideOut Studio

InsideOut Studio received a grant from the Ohio Arts Council and brought artists Kate Gorman and Amy Rich to the studio to teach our artists fabric art.

Kate was with us for 2 weeks and taught our artists how to create contemporary quilts.

Kate worked with the staff and the artists and showed them the techniques to translate original designs and drawings into fabric wall hangings, pillows, coasters and pot holders. Our artists enjoyed working with Kate and they loved learning to use the sewing machines. Kate also taught us how to hand design and dye silk scarves. All of the work our artists have created after learning Kate's techniques turned out beautiful. The wall hangings are reflecting the paintings our artists have made in the past, such as Alicia's Elvis and Breakfast at Tiffany's and Cassie's Marilyn. The silk scarves have been a favorite with our customers and make beautiful, one of a kind gifts.

Amy was also with us for 2 weeks and taught us the art of doll making using recycled clothing and other materials. We were blown away by the excitement our artists had and their abilities to hand sew. These figures represent some of our artist's favorite cartoon characters, singers and sports heroes such as Jim's Andy Dalton, Steve's Batman, and Keith's Miss Piggy and Kermit. Most of the dolls are original characters created out of our artists vibrant imaginations, like David's swimmer and Jody's girl in the pink dress. All of the fabric figures that have been made using Amy's techniques will put a smile on your face.
